The third KAMERS Pretoria show starts this Sunday, 25 November, and will be hosted in Irene at The Open Window School of Visual Communication @ SAX until 1 December. The opening night will include live music at the normal ticket price from 16:00-20:00 on Sunday the 25th of November. Be sure to watch out for DIE SKIM GROT stand. Lots of sweet Christmas treats for you to buy!!!

Braai Day at Honey Badger.

Die Skim Grot Maak Oop!

Frikkie's and Frikkettes, the moment Pretoria has been waiting for is finally here! Die Skim Grot shop is having its official opening tomorrow, the 30th of June.

Die Skim Grot or as english peeps call it, the phantom cave, is an initiative started by the guy and girl at Doktrine. The concept behind "Die Grot" is that of an underground designer goodie shop with the emphasis on new and  exciting local designer products by local artists, bands and designers. The idea is to create that same excitement one gets when walking into a secondhand shop and not knowing what to expect or what gems you will find.

The opening event takes place tomorrow, 30th June, at Die Moederskip which is situated on the corner of Pretorius and Hilda streets in Hatfiled. Doors will be opening at 11h00 and the event will run until 19h00. Pull in for some great shopping, a bit of music, and a bit of dop! Bands featured tomorrow include the likes of Yesterdays Pupil, Yo Grapes, A skyline on Fire, Vampire 9000, Sassquatch, Doctor Khumalo and Spookwolf!! The times for the bands are as follows:

Food will also be available to buy from Honey Badger Bistro right next door!!! Remember there is an entrance fee, so make sure to have R30. The first 150 people at the door get a voucher for one free Dooswyn and a shot at Arcade Empire for the Desmond & the Tutus Album Launch later tomorrow night.

This is gonna be one kick-ass event, so don't miss out... You will regret it if you don't pitch!!

Bluebird Opening Sale

Bluebird is a clothing venture started by two young P-town locals, and is aimed at young and old with styles that will suit both. You can think about them as an up-cycling fashion brand, where they take old clothes nobody wants anymore and fix them up and add small modern details which then makes each piece very unique. Their prices are also very reasonable with the items ranging from R50 all the way to R350 for the most expensive pieces. Bluebird is a very young brand and tomorrow is their very first sale!!

The sale is taking place on the 2 June 2012 at number 4 Lynnwood Gardens, 11 The Ring Street, Lynnwood, Pretoria. This will be an event where anyone can come view and purchase Bluebird items. They will have a variety of vintage clothing, handbags and accessories for both men and women.

The doors open at 11:00 and the sale will run until 14:00. There will be wine and juice available, with bottomless wine going for R10 a glass!! What a deal!!! As they are a very young brand, it will be cash only. There will also be very safe parking provided.

Friday! Today starts off with a banger at Karoo Lifestyle. Its the Art and Food Fair, and features lots goodies for you to buy and taste, DEFINITELY something to check out!! From there you gots two choices... Either head south to Open Windows campus for Fulka(Solo Set), Givan Lotz and Donkey!! R40 gets you in, and if you are lucky enough to still be studying and you posses a student card, you shall pay a mere R30!! POW!! If the south is too far a drive, why not go east and hit Arcade Empire for Dan Patlansky, The Newspapers and Smoking Mojos... 40 bucks at the door gets you in for a night filled with sweet tunes and cheap booze!!!

Saturday! Kicks off in Joy-Hannesburg with the launch of Feiyue South Africas ladies footwear launch at Mememe in Parkhurst. Go check it out for some sweet deals on some of the sweetest footwear that will ever grace your bare feet!! Oh... And there will be performances by Yesterdays Pupil, DJ Muptee and DJ Gaptooth Radio. Here is a recipe of LOVE to make for your loved one tomorrow morning for a sexy brekie in BED!

Lovers Breakfast

(Heart Shaped Bacon With Crumpets and Hart Shaped Egg topped with Honey and served with fresh Strawberries) 

 What you need:

- 1 Packet streaky Bacon

- For the Crumpets:
1 Cup Flour
1 Egg
2 Tablespoons Sugar
1/2 Tablespoon Butter, melted
2 Teaspoons Baking powder
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1 Cup Milk

- 2 Eggs.

- A few fresh Strawberries.

- Honey or syrup to taste.


- Heart shaped cookie cutter.
How to make it:


To make the bacon hearts:
- Preheat the oven to 200'C.
- Cut the bacon strips in half and shape into a heart, thats right!! A heart!!! Shape them on a greased baking pan.
- Place in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes.

To make the Crumpets:

- Mix the egg and sugar together in a large mixing bowl.
- Add 1/2 cup of milk and the butter.
-Mix in the flour, baking powder and salt.
- Add the rest of the milk and mix until well combined.
- Preheat a greased pan to a medium heat on the stove.
- When the pan is preheated add tablespoons of the crumpet mixture to the pan.
- first bake the one side, when air bubbles form on top the crumpet is ready to be turned over. bake until the crumpet is a nice shade of brown.

To make the eggs:
- Fry the eggs in a greased preheated pan, don't worry is the yellow of the egg is broken, you are going to cut a heart shape out of it when its done.
- When the egg is done use the cookie cutter to cut out a heart shape in the egg, don't discard the extra egg, that will be used in the tower of yummyness.

Assembly of the love meal:
- Put 1 crumpet in a plate and butter it if you prefer that.
- top with the extra bits of egg left over after the heart is cut out. Salt and pepper to taste.
- Top with another crumpet and butter is you prefer.
- Top with the heart shaped egg and salt and pepper to taste.
- Then add the heart shaped bacon to the top of the tower.
- Put the fresh strawberries around the edge of the plate.
- Lastly drizzle with honey or syrup!
- Serve on a plate or if your willing (just putting this out there) serve it on your STOMACH!!! BOOM!!!

This is sure to get you MILLION of brownie points, and might even get you a little kiss on the cheek!;) Either way, make sure you do your best to IMPRESS tomorrow... You wont be sorry!!!

aanklank - 'Papier is geduldig'

The Second aanklank video that was launched last thursday night which was directed by Adam Heyns is up on youtube, have a look, it's AWESOME! With a capital F! Read all about the video launch here, if you haven't yet!

Aanklank Video Premier

Frikkie and the rest of the Awesomeness, were very lucky to be invited to the launch of Aanklank's two new music videos last nite. The launch was held at the most perfect venue that one could possibly think of. A loft/studio in Lynwood which overlooks the whole of the Snorbaai... Too cool!! Upon arrival, we were greeted with platters of fresh breads, spreads and pestos, and the most astounding view of p-town at night...  Cardboard cut-out props, that were used in the making of one of the videos, were to be found hanging all around the space, and guests were encouraged to wear the props and snap some pics of themselves in these once off creations! Background music was provided by Francois Viljoen on  piano, and this just set the mood... All in all, the atmosphere was AWESOME!

 A bit later on, the reason we all were there, was about to begin. The girls from Aanklank, Willemien Heyns and Sanet Stegmann, came on stage and said a couple of thank yous before playing the first of two music videos. The first being the video for "Terugkeer Na Jou", which was done by M.J Du Preez from Doktrine... And we'd just like to say that it is a BEFRIKTE video. Beautifully shot and so well done... M.J and the rest of the team from Doktrine, HIGH FIVE from Frikkie Awesome!! Boom!!!

Once the video was done, the ladies came out and played a set of 3 songs to everyone's appreciation! This was followed by the premiere of there brand new video for the song "Papier is Geduldig". The video was made on a budget, but it came out soooo cool!!! A big congratulations is in order for Aanklank and there team of family and friends who helped them put together an awesome awesome video!! Dis rerig BEFRIK!

A little later in the evening we were given the opportunity to sit down with Willemien and Sanet and chat about the band, there day jobs, why they weren't naked in there music video and what the future looks like for Aanklank. Willemien and Sanet are probably the most down to earth girls in the WHOLE world! Such fun to talk to and this fun is carried through into there music and there videos. Bubbly does not fully describe these two girls... It's like ANOTHER level!!! And we LOVED it!!

The party carried on late into the evening, but it was eventually time for us to go... But we would just like to say thank you to Aanklank for having us and making us feel very welcome!! We hope to see you guys soon....

Vanaf 29 November tot 3 Desember 2011 het die Kamers Vol Geskenke span al die opwinding van die plaaslike skou na die Open Window School of Visual Communication in Irene gebring, waar hulle die beste van die beste handgemaakte ware vertoon het. Daar was alles te siene van juwele, keramiek, sagte meubilering, eetgerei, dekor-bykomstighede, ontwerper tuin goed en klere, Kamers Vol Geskenke fokus nie in die perfek gemaak of die massa geproduseer nie - dit gaan oor hoë kwaliteit handwerk met die klem op effens onvolmaakte, tydlose en oorspronklik ontwerp.

Thursday Night Vibes

Whats up Snor City?!?! Pretoria is looking amazing after all this rain we've been having! Don't know what to do this Thursday night...? What better way to experience the city then to get out there and breathe in the Snor Baai beauty!!


Why not kick-off the last month of 2011 with an eventful Thursday night!!Start your Thursday night off with Christmas Shopping under the stars at Alfresco @ Duncan Yard, this event starts at 16:00.

 

After you have presents for everyone you can think of, head off the Tings an' Times in Hatfield. Tings is closing down the 15th of December, so come join these guys for one last time! The line-up includes Bittereinder, Yesterday's Pupil, Fulka, DJ's Moe & Minx. Fulka will open the evening with a beautiful set at around 21:00 and Bittereinder will screen and launch their brand new music video for "Solidariteit". A cheeky Thursday with some VINO!!

Want something to take your mind off this EPIC heat?? Well why not head down to Duncan Yard for the Music and Wine Festival!!! I don't know about you, but wine.. On a Thursday.. Sounds like a BEFRIKTE PLAN!!! The event starts at 16h00 and runs until 19h00. You will be charged a measly fee of R20 at the door, and this gets you a WINE GLASS!!! YES!!! Then you can browse around all you like, sampling some wine, eating some bread maybe even stare at a few of P-Towns finer specimens of human beings! (That's just an option, just putting that out there!) After the browsing and grape bashing is done, why not grab a picnic basket from Deli on Duncan or book a table at Papas for some dinner and YOUR OWN bottle of wine that you purchased earlier in the day?!?! Now that sounds AWESOME to me!!! See you there...

STRIKFONTEIN

What’s happening p-town..?! Strikfontein is what’s happening! If the name doesn’t ring a bell, then you better start paying attention... Cause this is going to be big!! Strikfontein is a project produced by Nouvanaand films and tells the story about a group of young people who head back to their home town of Strikfontein for the first time in a couple of months since leaving for varsity. Here is the basic plot outline...

“Strikfontein vertel van 'n aantal jongmense wat terugkeer na die ongemak van hul tuisdorp. Hier moet hulle die bravade van hul nuutgevonde volwassenheid teen die magte van die dorp opmeet. Die eerste semester van universiteit is verby en ‘n vakansie by die huis ontlok oudergewoontes en vergete gevoelens. Eduan en Avianca se begrawe skoolverhouding word opnuut oopgekrap – die eerste van menigte geraamtes van hierdie groep vriende om uit die kas te ontsnap…”

Now Strikfontein needs the public’s help to make this awesome project a reality. Help in anyway will be appreciated, with the hope of eventually airing this series on kykNET. EXCITING EXHIBITIONS!!!!

Firstly... Its P-Warm in P-Town today.. Again!! Anyways, if you are looking for something to do on this Klein Saterdag, then why not head over to TUKS main campus for the annual Information Design Final Year Exhibition. Tonight is the opening night and should see a whole bunch of peoples checking out whats on show, but if you cant pull through tonight, the exhibition does run through until the 4th of Movember and will be open each day from 9h00 till 16h00. Tonight the doors open at 19h00... Be there or just be over-heating somewhere else!!

After you have recovered form tonights shenanegans, you can lift yourself off of your couch, and head over to 3rd Place, just above +27 Design Cafe in Hatfield, for the Saints & Sinners Charity Exhibition.. This is a REEEEEEALLY cool event, one, because all proceeds go to charity, and two, because everything on exhibit is for sale for R100... Yes One Hundred South African Rand!!! Too COOL!!! So, get there to pick up some awesome pieces by some of Snor Baai's local talent for what, according to Frikkie Awesome, is an absolute steal!!! Doors open at 19h00.

Weekend Vibes

WHHAAATTT. IS. UP. WITH. THIS. HEAT'NESS?!?!

I guess we have to maar deal with it...so why not take full advantage of it? So check out these two befrikte events happening this weekend in the quaint town of Snorbaai. The first one tomorrow is the Hazel Food Market Beer Festival, which will take place from 8:00 in the morning, and will run through till 21:00 that night with a short break between 14:00 and 17:00. Another awesome way to soak up the sun, would be to head down to the Voortrekker Monument and catch the latest installment of Park Acoustics!
