Die Skim Grot Maak Oop!

Frikkie's and Frikkettes, the moment Pretoria has been waiting for is finally here! Die Skim Grot shop is having its official opening tomorrow, the 30th of June.

Die Skim Grot or as english peeps call it, the phantom cave, is an initiative started by the guy and girl at Doktrine. The concept behind "Die Grot" is that of an underground designer goodie shop with the emphasis on new and  exciting local designer products by local artists, bands and designers. The idea is to create that same excitement one gets when walking into a secondhand shop and not knowing what to expect or what gems you will find.

The opening event takes place tomorrow, 30th June, at Die Moederskip which is situated on the corner of Pretorius and Hilda streets in Hatfiled. Doors will be opening at 11h00 and the event will run until 19h00. Pull in for some great shopping, a bit of music, and a bit of dop! Bands featured tomorrow include the likes of Yesterdays Pupil, Yo Grapes, A skyline on Fire, Vampire 9000, Sassquatch, Doctor Khumalo and Spookwolf!! The times for the bands are as follows:

There will also be a "Live-Drawing" demonstration by Brent Swart (BrentBlack Studios) and Gerhard van Wyk (This Pencil). There will be a bar available, so make sure to gets yourself a KAPOWERADE!! Food will also be available to buy from Honey Badger Bistro right next door!!! Remember there is an entrance fee, so make sure to have R30. The first 150 people at the door get a voucher for one free Dooswyn and a shot at Arcade Empire for the Desmond & the Tutus Album Launch later tomorrow night.

This is gonna be one kick-ass event, so don't miss out... You will regret it if you don't pitch!!

Bluebird Opening Sale

Bluebird is a clothing venture started by two young P-town locals, and is aimed at young and old with styles that will suit both. You can think about them as an up-cycling fashion brand, where they take old clothes nobody wants anymore and fix them up and add small modern details which then makes each piece very unique. Their prices are also very reasonable with the items ranging from R50 all the way to R350 for the most expensive pieces. Bluebird is a very young brand and tomorrow is their very first sale!!

The sale is taking place on the 2 June 2012 at number 4 Lynnwood Gardens, 11 The Ring Street, Lynnwood, Pretoria. This will be an event where anyone can come view and purchase Bluebird items. They will have a variety of vintage clothing, handbags and accessories for both men and women.

The doors open at 11:00 and the sale will run until 14:00. There will be wine and juice available, with bottomless wine going for R10 a glass!! What a deal!!! As they are a very young brand, it will be cash only. There will also be very safe parking provided.

Quite a packed weekend ahead... So no excuse for you NOT to do anything!?! Check this out!!

Friday! Today starts off with a banger at Karoo Lifestyle. Its the Art and Food Fair, and features lots goodies for you to buy and taste, DEFINITELY something to check out!! From there you gots two choices... Either head south to Open Windows campus for Fulka(Solo Set), Givan Lotz and Donkey!! R40 gets you in, and if you are lucky enough to still be studying and you posses a student card, you shall pay a mere R30!! POW!! If the south is too far a drive, why not go east and hit Arcade Empire for Dan Patlansky, The Newspapers and Smoking Mojos... 40 bucks at the door gets you in for a night filled with sweet tunes and cheap booze!!!

Saturday! Kicks off in Joy-Hannesburg with the launch of Feiyue South Africas ladies footwear launch at Mememe in Parkhurst. Go check it out for some sweet deals on some of the sweetest footwear that will ever grace your bare feet!! Oh... And there will be performances by Yesterdays Pupil, DJ Muptee and DJ Gaptooth Radio. Drinks and snacks will be available so pull in and be AWESOME!!!! The event kicks off at 16:00!!! Later that night, the Vrede Fest is taking place at Arcade Empire. Bands featured include aKing, Zebra and Giraffe, Gazelle, Taxi Violence, Wrestlerish and Moses Metro Man!! This is a MASSIVE one, sure not to to be missed!!! Whats a happening P-toria?!?! So if you are lame and STILL don't know what to do this weekend, then this post is for YOU!!

So to start the weekend off, why not head down to Arcade Empire for the MK Ondergrond Live event. This is one NOT to be missed, and features the like of The Narrow, Not my Dog, Sesling and Only When it Rains!!! 50 bucks before 9 and 60 bucks after... Get down there for some sweet drinks specials and GREAAAAT vibes!!! If you are keen to stay home tonight, switch your TV over to channel 324 for the live broadcast of the MK Awards, get some popcorn, cold beer and a comfy couch and sit back and enjoy the cream of South African music right in the comfort of your own home!!! BOOM!!!

Saturday is gonna be an epic day in the history of the Snor-City! the MK Awards After Party is being hosted by Arcade Empire and features an EPIC line up!! Get there at 15:00 and prepare yourself for Die Heuwels Fantasties, Mr Cat and the Jackal, Bittereinder, Shadowclub, Gazelle and Jack Parow!! AWE!!!! entrance is R150, but through TicketBreak you can get away with a ticket for a mere R100!!! DO NOT MISS THIS!!!

 For your end of weekend recovery, why not head over to the Voortrekker Monument for Park Acoustics. This Sundays line up, which starts off at 11h00, includes Mr Cat and the Jackal, Fulka, Float Parade and 3rd World Spectator! Tickets are R65 at the door and R55 on TicketBreak!!! What more do you need for a chilled laid back Sunday??

If you are a resident of Joy-Burg, or a Snorcity local with enough petrol in your car, head on over to Marks Park in Emmarentia at 11h00 for Large on the Lawn. This Sunday will feature the likes of Arno Carstens and Albert Frost, Watershed, The Black Hotels, Ramblin' bones, Laurie Levine and Cameron Bruce. Tickets are a bit pricey at R250, but it should be worth every penny with that sort of line up!!

So get off your lazy-4-day-week-asses, and go and support the local talent... You will NOT be disappointed!!! POW!!!!

So.. For those of you who aren't really in the know!! Heres some of the gigs planned for this weekend...

Starting off this afternoon just to gets you into the weekend mooood.. Head down to Karoo Lifestyle opening event. Be sure to check out Lafenis deli!! Its a must!!!


Once you're done stuffing yourself and your face, you can catch Fulka, Wrestlerish and Shortstraw at Arcade Empire. 40 bucks gets you in and there is also some sweet drinks specials.. So CHECK. IT. OUT!!!

If you're in the mood for something a bit louder tonight, head on over to Cafe Barcelona in Elarduspark, where you can catch Shadowclub, Southern Gypsy Queen,

The Black Cat Bones and My/Epic/Vice. Entrance is a bit steep at R80 before 20:00 and  R100 thereafter. But this is surely one of those shows that can't be missed!!

Then the big one tomorrow, is obviously RAMfest which is happening this year at Riversands Farm in Fourways. The BIG ones to look out for are of course In Flames, Infected Mushroom, The Narrow and Fokofpolisiekar. If you haven't got a ticket... GET ONE!!! This is going to be epic!!!

Yo!! Been such a loooong week, but do not fear, for it is the WEEKEND!!! And once again, the weekend does NOT dissapoint!!

    

 

 

Starting off in city of the Snor. Tonight, DIE ANTWOORD will be performing at Arcade Empire and will be supported by The Wedding DJ's, Slap-Chip and Doctor Khumalo. This is not one to miss, because is the last time Die Antwoord will play in the country for quite some time! So get there your lazy asses down to Arcade for one of the coolest shows around!

 

The city of gold is next on the weekend vibes. This weekend, sees the premier of what hopefully becomes a regular event. It's the first ever JOZIFEST! This just looks like a craaaaazy weekend filled with awesomeness! The list of bands and dj's playing is mind blowingly loooong, but ones to look out for are the many international acts and especially FOTO NA DANS. This will be their last show ever up in Gauteng, due to the band taking a break... So there is no excuse, follow the link and figure out what time you gotta leave home to make it in time to see madness go down.... Joy-Burg never dissapoints!

Last but not least, the mother city herself... Now if you don't know already, this weekend is the UP THE CREEK festival near Swellendam. This is one of those festivals that everyone has to atleast attend once!! Its probably on the top 5 list of things to do in summer!! For more information, hit up this link and get ur bums there!! Whasssuuup!! So... It's the weekend. FINALLY!! After a long, hard week, what better way to cheer yourself up than plan for the weekend aheads activities... So we have 4 different thangs for everyone to check out this weekend.. Boom!

The first two take place tonight, and they are the Hotboxfoam party which takes place at Hotbox studios in P-Town, so if you're in the mood for cheap booze and more foam than a two year olds bath, then head on over there!! For those that prefer a drier Friday evening, why not head on down to Arcade Empire for Shadowclub, Southern Gypsy Queen and 7th Son, this is bound to be a great show!!

Saturday's line up includes the now popular Neighbourgoods Market in Braamfontein, Joy-Burg. Pull in there for tasty treats, some chilli tequila and great shopping! Not to be missed if you're in Gauteng! P.S a little bird tells us that our friend LO, will be having a MASSIVE sale... Ladies... Do yourselves a favour and get there.. You will not be disappointed!!
